If you have been following the reviews and case studies I have written on this blog, you might think that I have a dislike for Multi-Level Marketing (MLM). I honestly can’t say I don’t. While I think MLMs are legit to a certain extent, I will not recommend to people looking to start their own business. No doubt, what I am about to say is not going settle well with MLM advocates.
You probably shouldn’t listen to me
You know the part where more than 90 percent of the people who join MLM type business do not earn a decent enough paycheck for their effort. I would know since I was part of that statistics. I mean the not making a single cent part of the statistics.
Here are my other
3 4 reasons why I do not recommend starting in a MLM type Business:
Expensive to Join
Obviously you need to sell products or services but most MLM also requires you to purchase the products or service plus an admin fee in order to join in its compensation plan. I usually agree with owning or using the product you are promoting. However, I don’t understand the need to pay the admin fees.
Shouldn’t you be happy enough that your customers are willing to promote your products? Moreover, the admin fees are not exactly cheap and could cost over a hundred each year. And since you have to own the product, have you ever felt that MLM products are more expensive than its retail competitors?
I cannot statistically justify that MLM has a bad reputation. This could be an entire survey by itself But I do feel it is important to point out that you have to deal with the bad rep that you will inherit from MLM industry. To be fair, the bad rep is not your fault to begin with. You merely just add on to it with…
Or sleazy marketing. I heard many stories of guys claiming to bring their dates to see something amazing but end up bringing them to an “amazing MLM business presentation”. You might think it is clever but for someone who has been on the receiving end, I am telling you it is annoying. How is annoying customers good for business?
Chasing Friends and Family
Perhaps due to lack of marketing avenues or bad product, you have to resort to chasing your friends and family to buy into whatever you are selling. Most of the time, they buy because they just want to support you or feel sorry for you. Just don’t expect them to go chase their friends and family too. If it is hard for you, it is hard for them too.
